Bluegill, male, (Lepomis macrochirus) [The males of this variety of bluegill is known as a 'bull' bluegill - denoted by the dark gill-flap and in larger sizes a bulging forehead. They get quite large: 3-4lbs. World Record: 4lb 12oz (AL, 1950) IN Record: 3lb 4oz (pond Greene Cty; 1972). This one is a moderate size for Yellowwood Lake (approx. 8-10 oz.) Yellowwood no doubt holds fish triple this size. Also, NOTE the VERTICAL barring, this is indicative of the pure bluegill specie.]
